Build failures on Mac OS 10.11.3
I'm trying to build 21a, using the 21a Darwin binary to bootstrap it. But I'm running into fatal errors pretty early in the process, both with Clang and GCC:
- Clang: https://gist.github.com/dunn/8265230c79986f3b6dbe#file-01-build-sh-L657
- GCC (5.3.0): https://gist.github.com/dunn/68a8d504008fbcb53f02#file-01-build-sh-L657
Full system configs at the top of those logs.
I tried changing the minimum MacOS version per #19 (closed), but that didn't help.
Let me know if there's any other information you need!
Looks like it's detecting the architecture incorrectly; using
-m32when this is a x86 64-bit system I'm building on.
Is the conditional here correct? https://gitlab.common-lisp.net/cmucl/cmucl/blob/master/src/lisp/core.h#L27
#if !(defined(alpha) || defined(__x86_64))to
#if (defined(alpha) || defined(__x86_64))(or should it be
#if !defined(alpha) || defined(__x86_64)?) still fails, because it looks like the AMD header is getting pulled in: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/48210882fdb2f36a151e#file-01-build-sh-L657-L671
Not sure what's going on. I regularly build on OSX and the command line uses exactly the same compiler switches you show.
Could you try with building the Feb 2016 snapshot using the Feb 2016 binaries?
Oh, cmucl is a 32-bit binary; it currently does not run as a 64-bit binary. The
-m32options are required.
Oops, looks like it's only failing within the Homebrew build environment, which thinks it's doing the right thing by replacing
Yeah, telling Homebrew to use a 32-bit environment is all that's needed here. Sorry for the confusion!

Just to be clear, once you tell Homebrew to use a 32-bit environment, cmucl compiles and works?
Not quite. It solved the issues that prompted this issue, so I closed it, but the build hangs later, on this error:
Error in function LISP::FOP-EVAL-FOR-EFFECT: Attempt to load a file having a compile-time read error. [Condition of type SIMPLE-ERROR] Restarts: 0: [CONTINUE] Skip this form. 1: Return NIL from load of #<Stream for file "/private/tmp/cmucl20160228-36326-18fkv9x/darwin-3/code/irrat.sse2f">. 2: Return NIL from load of "target:tools/worldbuild". 3: [ABORT ] Return to Top-Level. Debug (type H for help) (LISP::FOP-EVAL-FOR-EFFECT) Source: ; File: target:code/load.lisp (EVAL (POP-STACK)) 0]
Homebrew doesn't allow interactive builds so it's effectively a fatal error. Logs: https://gist.github.com/dunn/7611a4e2202098663784
I'll try again with the latest snapshot now.
Let me know if you'd like this in a new issue.
