Abrupt exit of Gendl
Created by: reiniervandijk
I was writing something like:
(define-object pdf-test (base-drawing)
:objects
((box :type 'box-solid :width 1 :length 1 :height 1)
(view :type 'base-view :objects (the box))))
Opened in Tasty, tried to visualize, but go the obvious error that I should've put (the box) inside a list. Updated my code to:
(define-object pdf-test (base-drawing)
:objects
((box :type 'box-solid :width 1 :length 1 :height 1)
(view :type 'base-view :objects (list (the box)))))
And after compilation, got the pop-up message:
Never saw this before, clicked OK --> Lisp process exited. Seems like a serious issue.

I cannot replicate this error from this exact sequence, however:
I have seen this error from time to time lately, and we need to start reporting it to Franz since it is technically on their side of the fence. However, it may be connected with the GDL compiler as well. I have noticed that this error (almost) always happens when loading precompiled fasl files in combination with compiling and loading some modified GDL source files.
So the immediate solution usually turns out to be deleting all old, potentially "stale" fasl files, then starting fresh and recompiling everything fresh. I know this should not be necessary, but until we can reliably replicate the error in a way which we (or Franz) can reproduce consistently, fresh recompilation is the recommended course of action.

Sorry, should've been more explicit in saying that the above example was not meant for replication purposes. I put it there to provide a possible clue to where this may have come from, while anticipating that replicating it would be difficult. For the meantime, will follow your suggestions in case it happens frequently. This was a first-timer for me though.
