parse-namestring filling in missing components with :unspecific
As mentioned in the thread in !134 it could make some sense to have parse-namestring
to fill in missing components with :unspecific
which is what Lispworks does.
This does have some side-effects that might make cmucl less compatible with other open-source Lisps that don't do this. For example (merge-pathnames #p"abc" <defaults>)
will be different because #p"abc"
would have a :type
of :unspecific
instead of NIL
. Thus, the merge won't add a type if the <defaults>
has a type component.
